11 AAI officials held for clash at Calicut airport

Malappuram: Eleven Fire Department officials of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) were taken into custody on Thursday in connection with the violence at the Calicut International Airport at Karipur on Wednesday night.

S.S. Yadav, 38, a Central Industrial Security Force constable, was shot dead during a fight between personnel of the paramilitary force and those of the AAI over frisking by the former.

Ashok Kumar, Joint Secretary, Civil Aviation, who visited the airport, along with officers of the AAI and the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, said serious security lapses had taken place. Action would be taken against those responsible after a departmental inquiry. Additional Director-General of Police Shankar Reddy, District Police Chief Debesh Kumar Behra and other senior police officers held discussions with officials at the airport.
