Bhatkalli not allowed to enter Hong Kong

Abdul Haque Muniri who has been in the hardware business for 35 years in Bhatkal was invited to be part of a 15-day trip to Hong Kong in which officials of ACC cement company participated. This trip, however, turned into a nightmare after he, along with his wife, were allegedly detained at the Hong Kong Airport by immigration staff for about 12 hours and then sent back to Bengaluru.

Speaking to Bangalore Mirror on his way back from Bengaluru to Bhatkal, Muniri said, "We do not know why we were we harassed. About 43 members were part of the trip to Hong Kong. On landing at the airport at about 9.30 am on Friday most of them cleared immigration, while I, along with my wife, were detained. Initially we failed to understand the language. We were asked several questions like who we were, why did we come to Hong Kong, and so on. Our luggage was checked several times and we too were personally checked. ..," he said. The couple was immediately sent back to Bengaluru. There were 15 other Indians who were sent back.

News of his return spread like wildfire in Bhatkal and on social media, giving room for several conspiracy theories. While some alleged that the name ' Bhatkal' has been put on the look-out list at all international airports, a few maintained that it could be a case of improper travel documents.
