Chandigarh: Bhuntar airport of Himachal Pradesh, which is caters to hot tourist destinations, Kullu & Manali, is all set to witness hectic schedule in future as the civil aviation authorities are testing to launch big aircrafts there. At present, only small 42-seater aircraft could land at the airport but authorities are trying to ensure landing of a 72-seater plane.
According to officials, initial trials were successful and testing would be completed in the next weeks. They also added that Air India may launch its 72-seater aircraft for Bhuntar airport from Delhi after getting the report of trials. The operation of a bigger 72-seater plane flights for Bhuntar would not only bring down the airfare but also be a big boost to the local tourism industry. At present, the passengers have to shell out around Rs 16,000 each to travel to Bhuntar from Delhi. With the operation of a bigger aircraft, the airfare is expected to reduce by around Rs 5,000-6,000.
