Chennai may get direct flights to Seoul

Chennai:  Korean Air, the largest airline in South Korea, is exploring the possibility of starting services between Seoul and Chennai or Bengaluru as there is no direct flight from the south though there is a sizeable Korean diaspora living in these two cities.

Sources said that a delegation from Korean Air visited the city recently to study feasibility of starting services. They travelled to Bengaluru also. Direct flights are available only from Mumbai and Delhi.

Travellers from Chennai fly via Singapore or Hong Kong to Seoul. More than 3,000 South Koreans live in Chennai where Hyundai, LG and Samsung have manufacturing plants. They live in close knit community congregating at Korean restaurants, cultural centres and churches. Many of them have to travel to Mumbai to board direct flights.
