Domestic cargo facility at airport in a week

Visakhapatnam: Nearly two weeks after an office was formally opened by Union Minister of Civil Aviation P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju, cargo operations from the ‘Domestic cargo’ section at the Integrated Terminal Building at Visakhapatnam International Airport are yet to commence.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has appointed an outsourced agency in February this year for establishment of Common User Domestic Air Cargo Terminal (CUDCT) at 24 airports, including Visakhapatnam, the Civil Aviation Minister said in the Lok Sabha in response to the query raised by Visakhapatnam MP Kambhampati Haribabu towards the end of April.

It may be recalled that the conversion of the old terminal building at the airport into an integrated cargo complex was inordinately delayed due to lack of coordination between two government agencies in the past.
