Hyderabad: Business potential in the Rayalaseema region can now be harnessed better, thanks to the inauguration of Kadapa airport by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday.
The airport was declared open with the landing of a flight from Bangaluru this morning. The airport was developed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) at a cost of Rs. 42 crore. It has got a new, compact pre-fabricated terminal building that can handle 100 passengers at a time.
The runway is capable of handling ATR-72 type aircraft operations, while the new apron can accommodate three such aircraft.
The expansion and upgradation of the airport will be undertaken to handle A320 type aircraft operations depending on the demand and traffic. The State Government has given 520 acres for the airport development.
