Only one city airport will survive

Mumbai: Union civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju on Tuesday said in the absence of a fast connectivity corridor between Mumbai and the proposed Navi Mumbai airports - one of the two airports will kill the other.

"I don't know which of the two will survive, but in the absence of quick connectivity one of the two airports will kill the other," said Raju, speaking to a select group of journalists during his day-long visit to Mumbai when he met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Raju added that the state government wants an increase in FSI in areas like BKC, and that he has asked him ministry to examine how the skies can be freed up so that the surrounding areas can be exploited for taller buildings. He added that it will also explore how the radars that will be affected by the taller structures can be re-located.
