Tata Sons in talks with AirAsia to raise its holding; likely to buy Arun Bhatia’s shares

PARIS: Low-fare carrier AirAsia India and Tata Sons are in discussion to increase the conglomerate's stake in the airline, a senior executive at the airline's Malaysian parent and another person in the know said.
The Tatas now own 30% stake in AirAsia India while AirAsia Berhad owns 49%. The rest is with private investor Arun Bhatia through his investment holding company, Telestra Tradeplace.
The group will likely buy Bhatia's shares reducing his holding to a "bare minimum", said the person cited above on condition of anonymity.
"There are discussions going on (between Tata Sons and AirAsia India) and I know the Tatas are keen to increase stake. They are happy with AirAsia's performance," said the senior executive at AirAsia Berhad.
