In majority of the cases, the buck ends with the carrier or small-time intermediaries, while the big fish always invariably manage to wriggle out, according to customs officials.
Between March 2012 and June 2015, the customs officials seized about 521 kg of gold and registered about 2,618 cases in this connection. However, majority of these cases end up with the arrest of just the carrier and their handlers and not the end purchaser.
