Rajanagaram: Appala Naidu from Palasa, a 56-year-old daily labourer had a dream to fly in the air and it got fulfilled thanks to the helicopter services being run at Rajahmundry as part of Godavari Pushkarams.
"I have a dream to fly in the air atleast once in life, but there is no change as my children are not in good positions. I saved Rs.7,000 and came to Godavari Pushkaram by passenger train and saw that there is a helicopter ride. Finally, my dream came true. I enjoyed the trip, this is enough for my life,” said Appala Naidu.
He was one of the riders from among the 108 passengers who travelled in in Pawan Hans Limited’s (PHL) 6-seater Helicopter (VT-PHA) which offered joy ride from Wednesday. On the second day, there were more than 110 bookings till afternoon and the number was expected to reach 180 by evening.
“Director General of Civil Aviation has permitted us to operate up to three choppers keeping the number of riders in view. Though the response on the day one and two was good, we have not reached the target of 200 a day per one chopper. That is why we are operating only one,” said Maneesh Rokade, Deputy General Manager (DGM) of PHL.
