Kochi: The Ernakulam unit of the Vigilance and Anti-corruption Bureau (VACB) Special Cell on Friday raided the residences of Jabin K Basheer, the policeman who was arrested by the Customs Department for allegedly facilitating gold smuggling through the Nedumbassery airport.
The officials registered a case after raiding Basheer’s houses at Kizhakkekara and Muvattupuzha market. The VACB sleuths also raided residences of Basheer’s two relatives at Muvattupuzha.
According to the officials, an investigation is underway into the alleged illegal amassment of wealth by the accused.
A report was sent to the VACB director recommending registration of case against Jabin, even before he was booked by the Customs Department. Now, a case has been registered against him under various Sections of Prevention of Corruption Act.
