Baggage self-drop service at 13 airports

New Delhi: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is in the process of deploying self-service counters for baggage drop in 13 airports. The self-service counters will be built in 13 of the larger airports in the country, including Chennai, Kolkata and Ahmedabad.
Officials said that the self-drop baggage service is the extension of the mobile boarding pass service, on which the government is in its final stages of coming out with the guidelines. Once the guidelines are out and the processes implemented, passengers will not have to collect boarding passes from the check-in counter and can walk straight to the security check. The boarding passes will be available as a virtual pass on the passenger’s mobile screen. The pass will be scanned at the security check, and will require no further stamping as is the case now.
