Trichy: A special committee will be formed to oversee the immediate expansion of the Trichy international airport building, where the passenger traffic has spiked to around 1,000 people in the peak hours, chairman of Airports Authority of India (AAI) R K Srivastava said here on Saturday. The committee will discuss the overall development of the airport.
The linear expansion of the airport building- 80m on the departure side and 101m on the arrival side- is expected to cost Rs 232 crore and will double the existing capacity of five lakh people to about 12 lakh. The schedule for the expansion work will be drawn up, the official said. Once it begins, the work is expected to be completed in four years.
