Hoteliers' body seek airport upgrade

Chandigarh: Apprehending that the new international terminal of Chandigarh airport would not serve any purpose until upgradation of runway and instrument landing system (ILS), the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Northern India (HRANI) has sought the intervention of union tourism minister to speed up the process.

"Airports Authority of India (AAI), Punjab and Haryana have jointly spent more than Rs 1,100 crore for the terminal building in anticipation of making Chandigarh the next big international destination for aviation after New Delhi. The new terminal cannot be put to use for since it will have the same undeveloped runway at the disposal," said the apex body representing around 1,700 members, including hotels and restaurants, and associates of nine states of north India.
