More than 15 lakh fly through Ahmedabad airport in Summer 2015

AHMEDABAD: It is a well-known fact that Gujaratis love to travel and summer holidays is something that everyone looks forward too. Huge discount offers by airlines, better connectivity and improving economy resulted in record passenger movement at Sardar Vallabhabhia Patel international airport this summer, bringing in more than 15 lakh passengers.

For the first time, more than 15 lakh passengers flew in and out of city airport in April- May- June, the summer holidays this year. According to latest data available from Airports Authority of India (AAI), 15.23 lakh passengers including 3.55 lakh international and 11.68 lakh domestic passengers movement was recorded in April-June 2015, an increase of whopping 30% compared to same period last year.

In period from 2012 to 2014, less than 12 lakh passenger movement was recorded at city airport in summer months due to economy slowdown which affected travel plans of people. But this year due to various reasons including positive sentiments, the numbers grew manifold. Also, one of the main reasons was increased movement on international routes and flight additions on domestic routes.
