AAI wants Terminal 1D shut, flights shifted to T3

New Delhi:  The domestic departure terminal for budget airlines, T1D, is caught in a crossfire between the state-run Airports Authority of India and infra major GMR who are partners in the Delhi International Airport Pvt Ltd (DIAL).

While DIAL wants to expand T1D and aviation secretary R N Choubey is overseeing decongestion efforts here, AAI wants this section to be shut down and all domestic flights shifted to T3 within three months. AAI has told the aviation ministry that T1D was not part of the original master plan of IGI Airport and had been built -- without approval -- in an area that was earmarked to house the cargo terminal.

"In view of the short-comings and non-compliance observed, aviation ministry may advice the operation, management and development agreement (OMDA) implementation oversight committee to direct DIAL to discontinue all the operations at T1D and shift all the domestic operations of T1D to T3 within three months and to develop the cargo operations immediately at the designated place," AAI has told the aviation ministry.
