CIAL Contract Staff Cheery

Kochi:  The unbridled gold smuggling and the involvement of ground handling staff in the recent gold smuggling incidents has come as a blessing in disguise for the contract workers employed in the sector since some of the leading ground handling agencies have begun steps to recruit in-house staff to their workforce rather than recruiting contract staff.

Bird Worldwide Flight Services (BWFS), a leading group which provides aviation services like aircraft navigation, ground handling, customer management, logistics, ticketing, cargo management and baggage handling at three of the busiest airports  in the country-- New Delhi , Bengaluru and Kochi-- has decided to recruit only in-house staff henceforth and it would benefit around 600 contract ground handling staff in the sector.

The decision assumes considerable significance in the wake of the arrest of around two dozen ground handling staff,  majority of whom were working with BWFS, by the Cochin Customs in connection with the smuggling of over 2,500 kg of gold through the Cochin International Airport Limited(CIAL).
