Gold worth over Rs 1.5 crore found in Air India Express aircraft at Chennai airport

Chennai: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officials recovered five kilograms of gold, worth over Rs 1.5 crore, hidden in a toilet of an Air India Express aircraft which arrived here from Kuala Lumpur on Thursday morning.

The destination of the flight was Trichy and it had a stopover in Chennai.

Sources said DRI sleuths had got a tip that ground handling staff at the airport were colluding with smugglers and that they would make a bid to take the gold out of the aircraft to pass it on to a waiting gang member.
