New department for domestic operations shifted to T2

Mumbai: Mumbai Airport’s air traffic control (ATC) department is preparing to handle domestic operations which are supposed to shift to the international airport by the end of September. However, officials are concerned that shifting domestic flights to T2 will increase parking problems in the apron area.
As part of the shift, a department called “air traffic management department” has been created that will take care of Air India and Go Air Domestic operations from T2. Six months after T2 became operational last year, Vistara was the only domestic airline operating from it. The Mumbai Airport Authority is now planning to shift all domestic operations to T2.
ATC is concerned about aircraft movement from apron area and their journey from bay to runway which is why the new department was created. Seven officers will work in three shifts in the department. GM of ATC Jayant Dasgutpa said, “As aircraft of these airlines will stand in the south-east apron area, we are expecting that traffic and parking place will be badly affected there as international flights of Jet and Etihad also stand there. So to save air miss and aircraft coming near each other, we are creating this department.”
