No international flights for now

CHANDIGARH: Even though Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Chandigarh international airport on September 11, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) will take another four to five weeks to make it operational. Till then, flights will operate from the existing domestic terminal.

Talking to TOI, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chandigarh International Airport Limited, Suneel Dutt said the international terminal is ready and they have conducted necessary trials. However, he said it will take 4 to 5 weeks after inauguration to shift the entire operational base from the domestic to the international terminal.

"We want to give complete comfort to the passengers so that they do not face any harassment and that is why we do not want to shift flight operations hurriedly. Even in Delhi and Mumbai, flights operations were started one and a half months after inauguration," Dutt said while explaining the shifting plan.

On the possibility of international flights, Dutt said they are ready to operate international flight at any time, even from the domestic terminal till shifting is done but no airline has come up with a final schedule for an international destination.

He also said that as standard procedure, airlines would start selling tickets one and a half months before the launch of international flights.
