Small towns have more flights than Diamond City

Surat: When it comes to air connectivity, the Diamond City could well be defeated by even small towns in Maharashtra, namely Nanded and Latur.

Both these towns have population of less than 4 lakh, still they have three daily flights each to various destinations. However, despite being the fourth fastest growing city of the world and eighth largest city in the country and having population of 44.62 lakh, Surat is left to fend with a lone flight between Surat and Delhi.

The We Want Working Group at Surat (WWWAS) and the Surat Airport Action Committee (SAAC) have come out with comparative figures of population and the number of operational flights from important destinations across the country.

SAAC members opined that majority of the domestic travelers prefer to board flight from Vadodara as there are no options in the city. The travel agents are asking the passengers to book their flights from Vadodara as the private airlines are offering them good discounts.
