U-turn on forced parking fee triggers airport chaos

Kolkata: Passengers who book an app-based cab ride from Kolkata airport have to fork out Rs 100 more than the fare following the airport management's flip-flop on the issue of forced parking fee collection by a private agency. Similar cab service from airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai do not entail the charge.

Bidhannagar Police have expressed strong reservations over the move that comes barely two days after a flash agitation by cab drivers forced Airports Authority of India to suspend the forced fee collection from cabs that pick up passengers from the terminal within the 10-minute free window. The Airlines Operators' Committee (AOC) has also criticized the move.

Collection of Rs 100 parking fee from app-based cabs and luxury taxis that entered the airport to pick up passengers was suspended on Tuesday following a protest blockade by some cab drivers that morning.
