15-acre defence land for air passengers' comfort

Pune: More parking and a multi-storey building for passenger amenities will come up on 15 acres of additional defence land on the eastern side of the civil airport in Lohegaon.

Airports Authority of India (AAI) has been sanctioned the land on a 30-year token lease rent, Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari on Sunday.

Air passengers can hope for better services in the coming months as the has been sanctioned 15 acres of additional defence land at eastern side of existing civil airport.

He was visiting the airport for the MoU between the Indian Air Force (IAF) and AAI which will now submit a detailed plan on land usage to the ministry for approval.

"I am not stopping at 15 acres. We are trying to get 4 to 5 acres more. As things stand at present, the capacity of the expanded airport will be 2-3 times more. The AAI officials have been asked to submit a detailed project, but the inclusion of an underground parking and construction of a multi-storey building for passenger amenities is a great idea for space management," said Gadkari.
