AI: No benefits to pilots who join pvt airlines without NOC

New Delhi: Air India has cracked the whip on senior officials, mainly top pilots. There has been a growing tendency for pilots leaving the airline to join private carriers and then wean away talent from the Maharaja.

AI is facing a shortage of Dreamliner pilots due to a spate of resignations in past few months, caused by successive governments' failure to have common pay for pilots of erstwhile Indian Airlines and AI even eight years after the two were merged. Tuesday's Delhi-Milan flight did not operate as AI could find no pilots to operate it.

"It is learnt that a number of executives, who have retired, taken voluntary retirement, have joined private carriers/airlines without obtaining no objection certificate from AI for post retirement employment.... in such cases, post retirement benefit viz air passages, should be suspended immediately. An explanation of the concerned employee be taken before taking a final decision in the matter (before stopping his / her passage facilities permanently)," says a note sent on Tuesday by Deepa Mahajan, AI's executive director (personnel).
