Chennai: In a bid to regulate app-based taxis, Chennai airport is planning to charge them a flat rate of 100 and allow them to park outside the terminal.
Officials mooted the plan after Airports Authority of India (AAI) received complaints that cabs are charging passengers additional money due to the current policy of collecting money if vehicles stay for more than 10 minutes outside the terminal.
The authorities plan to charge a flat rate for taxis and allow them to park on the premises for two hours. Taxi drivers currently park their vehicles on GST Road outside the airport and drive in when they receive a booking on their phones from passengers arriving at the airport. The drivers hover around trying to spot their customers and create congestion.
