NSG conducts counter hijacking drill at Mumbai airport

The National Security Guard (NSG) is conducting a Counter Hijacking Drill at Mumbai Airport from October 19 to 24. The counter hijacking task force arrived at Mumbai airport early morning on Monday. The NSG drill was being conducted at a bay from 11.10 am to 12.45 am using Jet Airways flight VT-JWS under the supervision of Colonel Sanjay Kumar. 142 NSG personnel are participating in this drill. On Tuesday the team conducted it at a hangar from 3.10 pm to 4.15 pm using Star airlines flight VT-ALJ. “The drill was conducted in case a flight has been taken over by an anti-social group and the security agency has to rescue the passengers on the flight. Vacating of a bay and handling passengers and the emergency situation is what the agency observes, and works on the loopholes, if any,” said an airport official. The team acquired prior permission from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) to conduct the drills at the airside. An airport official said, “The mock drills were conducted by the NSG team. No other security agency at the airport was part of it. The drills were conducted across various bays at the airside. We were informed that these drills were part of the NSG training.”
