Central Vigilance Commission questions Air India's Rs 255 crore-contract to IBM

New Delhi: The Central Vigilance Commission has redflagged national carrier Air India's decision to award its Rs 255-crore SAP enterprise resource planning (ERP) implementation contract to IBM in 2011 on a nomination basis without calling tenders, two officials aware of the development said.
"The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) is not satisfied by the arguments given by the airline chief vigilance officer and airline management on nomination of IBM and not floating tender," a senior Air India official said on condition of anonymity.
Also, the decision to nominate was vetted by the airline board, which has the authority to do so, the official added. Another official alleged that the pace at which the airline board vetted the move to nominate IBM, too, have raised questions. "A day after the ministry approved it, the airline board cleared it. The pace of decision making does raise questions," the official said.
