Chartered flight cancelled as no staff to give clearance

JAISALMER: On one hand, while the state and Central government seem to be making all efforts to promote tourism, on the other hand, the tourism industry continues to be discouraged with the many loopholes that exist in the government's system. In a recent incident, chartered flight of two foreign tourists could not come to Jaisalmer from Delhi beacuse of shortage of Border Intelligence staff. At present, the personnel of this department are deployed in Barmer for CM's visit and the coming RAS examination. These chartered flights could not be given security clearance due to shortage of BI staff at the Jaisalmer airport. Confirming the incident, private chartered company officer Raghvendra Singh said the chartered flight of his company was to leave for Jaisalmer from Delhi on Saturday at 11 am with two British tourists, but on not getting security clearance, their flight could not depart. When Singh contacted the BI security officers at Jaisalmer, they expressed their inability and said that whatever staff they had was on examination duty and security arrangement for CM visit.
