MUMBAI: A builder from Versova, Riyaz Bhatti, was held at the airport before he could take a flight to Johannesburg around 5 am on Wednesday. A look-out circular (LOC) had been issued against him in 2007 for his role in serious criminal offences.
An officer from Sahar police station told TOI that Bhatti was nabbed during his immigration check. "When his passport was put through the scanner, it was found that an LOC had been issued against him in 2006," said the officer.
Bhatti's passport expired in 2006, after which he applied for its renewal. When it came up for police verification, it was rejected as there were cases registered against him.
