New Delhi: The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government is looking to boost manufacturing in the aviation sector through bilaterals.
The Union civil aviation ministry is evaluating a proposal wherein the country can gain in terms of setting up manufacturing facilities through bilateral deals.
"There is one interesting idea we have started working on and it is in its early days yet. India provides significant business opportunities to many countries. Based on the passengers and business we provide to them, the bilateral agreement can require them to pass on the offset to us so that we grow together. We provide passenger to them, they provide manufacturing assets to us," Civil Aviation Secretary RN Choubey said at an event here on Friday.
Offset clause generally refers to a foreign company investing back a portion of the deal into India. If an airline places a bulk order for aircraft, it requires certain manufacturing or maintenance facilities to be built in the country.
