Gold worth over 10 crore seized at Dabolim between Jan and Aug

Panaji:  Gold worth over 10 crore has been seized by the air intelligence wing of the Commissionerate of Customs in Goa between January to August this year at the Dabolim airport.

Data with the commissionerate indicates that gold in the form of chains, gold bars, foil strips and screws weighing anything between 240 grams to 9.4 kg were recovered, concealed in passengers' bags, aircraft toilets, aircraft seats, under passengers' clothes and in their bodies.

The largest number of seizures took place in the month of June where a total of 7.32 crore worth of gold was uncovered in six seizures. Of these, three of the biggest seizures of the year took place within a span of nine days where 7.7kg, 9.4kg and 7.4kg of gold, worth a little over 6 crore was uncovered concealed in a laptop bag, in a pair of jeans the passenger was wearing wrapped with a printed stole and concealed underneath a seat of the aircraft, respectively.
