India's first airport in Juhu will be nation's first civil aviayion museum

Mumbai: The country's first civil aviation museum will come up in a segregated non-operational area of India's oldest airport - Juhu Aerodrome. The airport started functioning in 1928, serving as the city's sole airport till 1948 when the present one came up in Santacruz.

The original terminal of what was then the Bombay International Airport in 1928 will house the museum comprising of vintage photographs, letters, aircraft models and anecdotes. Senior officials of Airport Authority of India (AAI), which is setting it up at a cost of Rs 40 crore, revealed that the only other museum dedicated to flying is a defence one located at Palam airbase in Delhi.

As per a plan cleared by the AAI chairman RK Srivastava last week, the museum will be open to public and aviation enthusiasts.
