Bhubaneswar: A day after angry students went on a rampage at the Air Hostess and Hospitality Academy (AHHA) here over a gamut of allegations, its director Dilip Routray was arrested by Commissionerate Police on charges of cheating the students as well as harassment on Thursday.
Routray, who had faced the wrath of the students on Wednesday, was quizzed by police again during the morning hours before being formally arrested by Kharavela Nagar Police. He has been booked under Sections 294/354/420/506 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
While some of the female students had alleged that they faced sexual harassment at their workplaces after their placement by the Academy which was later brought to Routray’s notice but in vain, the major charge against him was that of admitting students despite not having necessary affiliation and registration during the current academic session.
Routray had claimed that AHHA was affiliated to Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) but police verification found that University Grant Commission had barred the varsity from giving affiliation to institutions outside the State’s jurisdiction in June. This had led to cancellation of AHHA’s affiliation to KSOU and it had received communication over the matter in September.
