Domestic flights from Hisar in 18 months: Govt aide

Hisar: The Haryana Government aide, Subhash Chandra, today claimed domestic flights would operate from an airfield here in 18 months.
He said this after emerging out of a meeting with Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who took a brief halt in Hisar on his way to Meham in Rohtak today.
Chandra, chairman of a media house, said: “Setting up an international airport is a long haul. First, domestic flights should operate. The domestic flights will start operating in one-and-a-half years. The airfield’s expansion will continue,” he told the media.
This has become a prestige issue for BJP leaders who had promised to develop an airport in Hisar. The state Civil Aviation Department (CAD) had recently invited bids for selection of consultants for preparing a detailed project report for the aviation hub project in Hisar.
The CAD said the state government was keep to develop aviation hub which include Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility, Fixed Base Operations (FBO) facilities and defence/aerospace manufacturing park.
A government spokesperson said upgrading the Hisar airfield to an international airport would give a boost to economic and industrial development in the state.
