Customs officials at the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) have seized 0.93 kg of gold in the form of a cylindrical rod-shaped object valued at Rs 24.25 lakh from a passenger who arrived from Dubai.
A customs release here today said a premium brand speaker/woofer was brought by the passenger who arrived by Air India Express flight IX384 from Dubai on November 3. The passenger was detained by the customs for questioning.
The speaker was subjected to detailed examination on November 7 and gold in the form of a small cylindrical rod, which was ingeniously concealed in the inner core portion of the speaker, was retrieved with the help of technically qualified persons.
