Along with overall expansion, Pune Airport is all set to install a hi-tech baggage reconciliation system, relieving commuters from worrying over loss or mismanagement of their belongings.
The new system will be used to facilitate tracking, tracing and managing all bags during loading and unloading and provides real time information on the status of passengers' baggage. "Currently, as the loading and unloading of bags is done manually, there is always the possibility of human error. Luggage sometimes goes on the wrong flight or is left behind at the airport. With the new system, the entire process will be conducted mechanically. Work is in process and it will be completed within a month," said a senior official from Pune Airport on condition of anonymity.
The system determines which passengers have boarded and which bags have been loaded and produces reports to highlight mismatches. The system will ensure proactive monitoring of the process, enabling problems to be identified and resolved before a flight departs. It will also improve operational decision-making through the provision of real time information on mobile devices used by the staff.
