Indian Air Force expresses concern over private drones, favours guidelines for use

NEW DELHI: The air force, which is assigned the task of keeping our skies clear of any danger, has expressed concern over the mushrooming drone market, which could pose a sub conventional threat.

Speaking with ET, Air Marshal SB Deo, Chief of Western Air Command, highlighted concerns over this emerging technology. "We are coordinating with the Ministry of Home Affairs and other agencies to ensure that the use of these drones is controlled".

Further the Air Marshal highlighted that there is an effective mechanism in place to guard air force bases but the same may not apply to other national assets. "Once you put a camera on the device, it is essentially a person walking in air with a view to everything".
