Mangaluru: The officers of airport customs, Mangaluru, on Friday Saturday October 30 seized about 0.90 kg of gold in foil strip form and foreign currency valued at Rs 3.30 lac from an inbound and an outbound passengers.
The gold in foil strip form was attempted to be smuggled into India by a passenger by cleverly concealing the strips in plastic containers of talcum powder and crayons and also in cartons of cornflakes, cream wafers, drinking glasses and Pofak Oman snack.
The gold strips valued at about Rs 23.5 lac was seized and the person who arrived from Dubai was arrested as he attempted to smuggle the contraband into India in contravention of the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962 read with the Baggage Rules, 1998.
