Having witnessed four fatal accidents in the past couple of months, a 500-metre stretch near Airport Chowk on the Mohali airport road is being termed another “killer spot”.
The stretch has already claimed at least four lives, including that of a student of Class XI five days ago.
The SHO of the area, Sub-Inspector Rajiv Kumar, claimed that nearly 15 accidents had taken place at the spot so far. “Besides the deaths, over 10 persons have sustained injuries in the accidents. In an accident that took place on the night of November 10, a 17-year-old youngster lost his life while three other youths sustained injuries when their car hit the road divider,” said the SHO.
Though the SHO claimed that overspeeding was the main reason behind most of the accidents, he admitted that the road, too, was not up to the mark for safe driving.
