AHMEDABAD: Travellers arriving in India may no longer have to stand in long queues as the government has decided to deploy more immigration officials in all international airports including Ahmedabad airport.
The Union home ministry has started recruitment process for more immigration officials. The induction will result in reduction in queues at the airports.
Besides airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Goa and Kochi, Ahmedabad airport particularly witnesses long queues at immigration counters during peak hours especially in the night time. Passengers often complain of long queues at immigration counters on arrival at the city airport.
Almost 95% of the inter national flights to and from Ahmedabad operate at night leading to long waiting period. "While in case of departures, the queues are cleared swiftly as passengers reach well before time but in case of arrivals it gets cumbersome sometimes when 2-3 flights arrive at the same time," said an airport official.
