New Delhi: Bursting crackers on Diwali evening usually leads to a thick cover of smog that envelopes Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) for days at times, but this year was different.
On Wednesday night a layer of smog did cover the airport, but unlike previous years it didn’t affect visibility severly.
“The impact of Diwali smog at IGIA was less in intensity and also in duration this year. Normally, visibility at IGIA on most Diwali nights falls below 500 metres but on Wednesday, visibility remained at 700 metres even when it hit its lowest,” said RK Jenamani, director-in-charge, IGIA met unit.
