Will an aerospace institute in Bengaluru make up for the loss of the Indian Institute of Technology?
Yes, if one goes by the statement of Higher Education Minister T.B. Jayachandra. The State government is mulling establishing a Centre of Excellence in aerospace engineering in Bengaluru in tie-ups with the aerospace industry, he said on Monday.
Mr. Jayachandra held three rounds of meetings with private companies and discussed the proposal on setting up the Centre of Excellence.
The centre would aim to go beyond merely providing degrees and try to guarantee jobs to young professionals. “R&D, designs, and innovation will be the major focus of the institute,” Mr. Jayachandra told newspersons.
At present, aerospace engineering is in the curriculum of several engineering colleges across the State, but there is no Centre of Excellence in the field. Except IISc., Bengaluru, none of the colleges in the State have global recognition or ranking.
