College faculty to carry out study on controlling bird hits

Tiruchi: A city college faculty member has come forward to carry out a detailed study on bird activity in and around Tiruchi international airport and suggest scientific measures to control bird hits suffered by flights.

Q. Ashoka Chakkaravarthy from the Department of Foundation Courses of St. Joseph’s College has proposed to carry out the study by adopting certain scientific methodologies.

Mr. Chakkaravarthy has already got in touch with the Tiruchi airport authorities in this regard and conveyed his interest to carry out the study free of cost as a public service.

The scientific study would analyse the activity of birds hovering in and around Tiruchi airport and suggest scientific measures that could be taken to control instances of bird hits suffered by flights.

The Tiruchi international airport had witnessed instances of bird hits suffered by flights in the past.
