VASCO: Non-availability of paramedical staff at the Dabolim international airport has raised a serious concern among passengers and airlines staff. Highly-placed sources in Dabolim airport informed that there was no medical staff at the airport to attend to passengers in case of emergency as the contract awarded by Airport Authority of India (AAI) to attend to emergency cases at Dabolim airport has expired and medical staff including doctor, assistant doctor and compounder were asked to leave the airport premises couple of days ago.
In a case on Thursday, a Goa-bound Mumbai passenger Jakrudin (32) who had landed at the Dabolim airport by Indigo flight at around 1.20 pm suffered a massive heart attack. However, there was no paramedical staff to attend to him. Airlines staff with the assistant of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel and some passengers called ambulance van and the passenger was taken to the nearest hospital at Chicalim.
In another incident a couple of days ago, a passenger travelling to Bangalore via Goa also encountered some health problem but due to absence of paramedical staff at the Dabolim airport, he had to travel without any help.
