Thousands of passengers were stranded at Bagdogra airport today after 12 flights got cancelled due to heavy fog. The 12 flights included two helicopter services from Sikkim.
Bagdogra Airport director RakeshRanjanSahay said around 3,500 passengers could not fly due to bad weather and heavy fog. A Druk Air flight from Paro in Bhutan en route to Bangkok was the only aircraft to land today, According to Sahay, the Druk Air flight landed at 1pm when the weather improved briefly and departed for Bangkok at 2:20pm. The Meteorological Department said the foggy condition will prevail for at least the next 24 hours in sub-Himalayan Bengal.
