Naik brokers peace as IndiGo loaders resume work

Vasco: The 107-odd loaders of IndiGo Airlines called off their strike on Tuesday following the intervention of power minister and local MLA Milind Naik, who held a meeting to iron out differences between loaders and the contractor.

The aggrieved loaders went on a flash strike on Monday after officials tore a letter from them requesting that their monthly salaries be hiked to 13,000.

Several of them were observed sitting outside the old terminal building during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

With no positive sign orthcoming from the contractor f even 24 hours into the strike, the loaders approached Naik for help. The Mormugao MLA subsequently held a joint meeting with the loaders, IndiGo Airlines officials and representatives of J P Aviation Services Limited. After deliberations, the contractor agreed to pay each loader a monthly salary of 11,000.
