STATE MOVES CENTRE FOR FINAL NOD FOR NAVI MUMBAI AIRPORT

The execution of the proposed Navi Mumbai airport plan has reached a crucial juncture with the state government moving the Union Civil Aviation ministry for a Request for Proposal (RFP) clearance that is needed for them to kick-start pre-development work by February 2016.

The City Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), the nodal agency for Navi Mumbai, had received nine Request for Qualifications (RFQs) in June 2015. Of these, the agency shortlisted four -- GMR Delhi, GVKled Mumbai International Airport, Zurich airport with Hiranandani Developers, and MIA Infrastructure of France, along with Tata Realty.

CIDCO vice-chairman and managing director Sanjay Bhatia said, "We have sent the RFP document to the civil aviation ministry for its consent. This is necessary since there are key issues relating to the central and state government support in the agreements."

The RPF was approved by the state-appointed committee headed by the chief secretary, Swadhin Kshatriya, during a meeting held last week.

Union minister of state for civil aviation, Mahesh Sharma, hinted that his ministry would accord the clearance within a fortnight. "It is a work in progress," he said.
