Two Asr-bound flights diverted due to fog, reverted

Two Amritsar-bound flights from Ashgabat and Doha, were today diverted to New Delhi due to a thick cover of fog, leading to low visibility. Qatar Airways' QR548 from Doha to Amritsar and Turkmenistan Airlines' flight T5-553 from Birmingham-Ashgabat to Amritsar had to be diverted to Delhi. Later these two flights were reverted to Amritsar.
Sri Guru Ramdas Jee International Airport here has a visibility up to 350 metres as its runway is equipped with the CAT-II ILS system.
On the other hand, the airport at New Delhi is the only international airport in the country with the ILS CAT II B technology, enabling the aircraft to land and take off at a low visibility of 50 metres.
Presently, work is underway to install state-of-the-art ILS CAT II B technology at the airport, which boasts of a runway with 3,658 metres length, suitable for the operations of even big aircraft like B747.
The flight schedule is generally disrupted due to fog creating low visibility. Consequently, aircraft have to wait for longer hours for visibility to improve or get diverted to Delhi.
