BHOPAL: Nearly a week after a SpiceJet flight with 53 people on board skidded off the runway when a wild animal came into its way at Jabalpur's Dumna Airport, officials of the state forest department inspected the runway for identification of the specie that was killed in the incident.
Sources said the forest department and the Airport Authority of India (AAI) had been at loggerheads over runaway issues for long, especially over restrictions on entering the airport premises for investigations. AAI security does not allow forest officials to conduct a routine inspection of the runway, said sources. However, this time Jabalpur forest officials had issued a notice to the airport authorities, seeking an explanation on the wild animal that was crushed under the wheels of SpiceJet flight, said sources. "Instead of supporting us they have sent a notice, inquiring about the species of animal killed in the incident. How do we know that," wondered an airport official, pleading anonymity.
