Mumbai: Three unclaimed bags found at the international and domestic airport on Saturday kept security agencies busy the whole day and also resulted in traffic snarls on the western express highway.
The discovery of these bags put the security agencies in a tizzy because earlier during the day, a high committee meeting had taken place at the airport where all the security agencies at the airport were put on red alert for the next seven days. This was following the terror attack on Pathankot air base in Punjab.
A senior security official, from Mumbai international airport limited confirmed the incident and told The Asian Age, “A meeting of Central Industrial security force (CISF), representatives of all airlines, IB, Airport stake holders and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) was held and the decision of applying a red alert for seven days was taken keeping the Pathankot attack in mind.”
During a red alert, security agencies profile every passenger and if they find anyone’s behaviour suspicious, the CISF can ask any passenger to open their baggage for inspection. Security guards also perform random checks inside and outside the terminal.
